This fan-art for the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie. That story is part of my heritage 'cause I'm from a Canadian-French family. Anyway, in this picture is Evangeline with her lover Gabriel; I might put them in my "Favorite Couples from Books" list. I am really not good at the 18th Century fashion, but that's the best I could do.

That's so sweet. I love "Evangeline." It's one of my favorite epic poems. I wish that there was a happier ending to the story, but it's still a good story.
Not a lot of people know the story of the Great Expulsion, and, even though most of the Expulsion was in Canada, some of the Acadian population was in the U.S., or at least close to the U.S. It's sad to know what happened to them, and to think of the hardships they were faced with when they were banished from their home.
Even though Gabriel doesn't live long enough to be completely reunited with his beloved Evangeline, at least we can only hope that they'll be reunited in spirit.
